As anyone who’s ever shared a common space with me knows, good smells are a priority in my life, right after diffused lighting and quality lamp shades (no overhead lighting everrrr!!). If I’m spending more than 45 minutes in an interior space, you better bet there’s a tippy top candle burning. And only candles. Diffusers and potpourri are for nail salons and bathrooms. (Side note – candles during sexy time are wack, way too earnest and mushy).
THINGS THAT SMELL PLEASANT
Lafco candles – they’re big, heavily scented, come in gorgeous glass vases and are only $55. Over 25 scents to choose from, organized by room type and dream home. In the winter I like Ski House (VT ski lodge meets campfire) and Den (smells like a rich person’s study). In the summer I go for Poolhouse (French lilac) or Guestroom (really fresh daffodil).
Jo Malone French Lime Blossom Perfume – this is one of my summer perfumes. A lot of lime blossom scents can be overly pungent, this one has a hint of soap that takes it from perfume-y to fresh.
Apothia IF Roll-on Pure Oil – ALL.TIME.GREATEST.PERFUME. The embodiment of pleasantness and all things fresh and yummy and clean. The fact that it’s an oil adds a little bit of sultriness to the smell. Boys like it. I know this from experience.
Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena Room Scents – makes your kitchen smell legit. Works best if you combine a few of the products, say room freshener, liquid dish soap, surface wipes and scent diffuser (I make special diffuser dispensations for extra stinky rooms like kitchen and bathroom)
Voluspa Muscari candle – I said GODDAMN this candle smells good! Definitely for the bedroom, a little more girly, like an amazing perfume, but in the form of a $16 candle in a reallly pretty tin. Anthro carries a lot of Voluspa candles, if you go through as many as I do that under $20 price point is amazeballs.
Sage Machado Moonstone Perfume Oil – another oil (I’m big on those), hard to define, but that’s what sets apart good scents from bad. Kinda flowery, somewhat smoky, smells . . .sexy. Great winter perfume.
H2O+ Sea Salt Body Products – I discovered this shiz over the summer and it smells like the beach. I love the beach (no, like really love the beach), hence I love these products. First I use the scrub in the shower, slather myself with the body lotion after and spritz the body gloss on my legs, shoulders and chest as a finishing touch. Perfectoo.
Sephora Collection Super Supreme Body Butter – Mmm smells so rich, very olive oil-y. Pretty good too for $25 bones. Amazing texture to boot. Put it on right before you get dressed so your clothes absorb the scent and it stays with you all day.
