Ahh, the sun-soaked days of steamy August, when everyone and their mother has peaced out for vacation. My literary recommendation for lake/pool/river/oceanfront entertainment? Look Who’s Back, a satirical novel that imagines Hitler inexplicably waking up in a field in Berlin circa 2011, told from the Führer’s perspective as he concocts his own twisted understanding of the modern world. Meanwhile, the modern world interprets his impassioned antics and ah, striking physical resemblance as those of a gifted Hitler impersonator, and his “act” goes viral. Finding dark humor in Hitler is no small feat, but novelist Timur Vermes pulls it off (props if you have any idea how to pronounce the author’s name). Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Fine holiday fun.
